RSTO supports local early years partnerships to understand and use timely signals – known as lead indicator data – to improve service quality, quantity and participation.
The right data at the right time
Lead indicators are a type of data that signal future results. They show what’s happening in services and communities – for example, how many children are attending early childhood education – allowing early years partnerships to learn and adjust as they go.
The RSTO Indicator Guide is a collection of evidence-informed lead indicators for key early childhood services: antenatal care, child and family health services, early childhood education and care, parenting programs and the early years of school (prep to year 3). The indicators can be used by local early years partnerships to:
• better measure quality, quantity and participation across services, and use this information to make more effective decisions
• address key service gaps for more equitable service delivery
• respond to the needs of children and families in their community, especially those from priority groups
• capture evidence of innovation for advocacy for funding and resources.
